What is Linux Mint Debian Edition(LMDE)?
Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) 3(which is the latest version) who has the code name Cindy was published on 31 August 2018. It is from one of the operating systems form Linux Distributions.
Unlike all other Linux Mint editions, LMDE is a Debian 9 based OS. The LMDE is a Stretch of Debian 9 and uses the Cinnamon Desktop Environment.
The goal of LMDE developers is to create a Linux OS similar to Linux Mint but without using Ubuntu. Like Linux Mint, they want to remove Ubuntu completely and replace it with Debian in LMDE.
Many features were added in LMDE 3 after being the successor of LMDE 2, but for day to day, no big things are added. They are doing their best to make it look like Linux Mint but should work
Many updates were given, however, all of them were only to fix bugs or for security issues. Other than bug fixing and security issues, all the other packaging of LMDE is completely the same as Debian. Still, desktop and Mint components are getting continuously updates.
There is also a lack of point releases in LMDE. There is no major update for big changes, which can be done only when the LMDE 4 is released.
One of the best things about this LMDE is that like many other Linux distributions you can install it on a USB drive and use it on your computer. You will need to create a bootable drive and use the OS without removing other OS from your computer.
LMED is fast and has a user-friendly interface. LMDE possesses a simple, clear and clean user interface.
There are three versions of LMDE released by its developers.
- Linux Mint Debian Edition 1
- Linux Mint Debian Edition 2
- Linux Mint Debian Edition 3
